Job overview

Due to recent internal promotion a full time permanent band 3 Medical Secretary post has become available in our office team within the cellular pathology department.Ìý

The post involves working with our admin, clerical and support team to ensure that complex diagnostic reports are actioned to support our clinical and cancer teams. This supports our trust values of patient at heart, creative collaboration and everyday excellence.Ìý

Main duties of the job

The post involves on site activity in order to support our team of Consultant Pathologists and lab staff with progression of diagnostic specimens from sampling to release of a diagnostic report.Ìý

This involves but is not limited to:

Liaising with clinical teams and GPs

Managing and auditing referral requests from both internal and external sources

Liaising with lab and Consultants to ensure referrals are actioned appropriately

Providing cancer books for cancer teams to support MDTs

Supporting MDT preparation by means of coordinating lists and gathering slides

Addition and checking of data for Cancer registry each month

Supporting any queries within our cancer PTLÌý

Requesting cases manually, checking patient details on SPINE and Alex Health

Addition of lab details to reports in preparation for case reporting by Consultant Pathologists

Supporting with report audio typing as required using complex medical terminology

Use of spreadsheets for tracking and audit of cases

Supporting accreditation (UKAS) and license activities (HTA)

Maintenance and knowledge of SOP's

Booking of specimens onto ICE
