We are a dedicated team of 11 consultants, we are excited to welcome a new consultant to join our expanding Care of the Elderly and Frailty service. You will have the opportunity to work in a base ward or within the community, with the added benefit of developing a specialist interest in one of the key areas, including orthogeriatrics, peri-operative medicine, interface medicine or community geriatrics.

Our highly regarded Frailty Assessment Service, includes a Direct Assessment Pathway, Frailty Assessment Unit, Frailty SDEC, and a Virtual Ward currently in development. These services are central to our care model and provide a unique opportunity to contribute to an innovative service.

The role will include a fixed weekend post-take ward round, as well as Frailty Assessment Service sessions on a 1 in 10 basis. As our workforce expands, the nature and frequency of weekend commitments will change, ensuring a well-balanced and sustainable workload is maintained

Main duties of the job
This is a substantive post working within in Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest Foundation Trusts in England. Whilst advertised as a full-time post, we will accept part time or flexible working requests for the right candidate and aim to have one day working from home to support wellbeing.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full General Medical Council registration.
- On Specialist Register for General (Internal)) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine via: CCT or CESR-CP (Combined Programme) (proposed CCT/CESR-CP date must be within 6 months of interview - CESR or European Community Rights
- MRCP
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree
- Teaching qualification Management/Leadership qualification
- Membership of British Geriatrics Society
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven clinical skills in Care of the Elderly, General and Acute Medicine and in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work closely with colleagues in Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine
Desirable criteria
- Experience in community geriatrics e.g. community hospitals, nursing homes, ‘interface’ geriatrics
Knowledge and Skills (research, management, administration, teaching, etc.)
Essential criteria
- Experience in devising, conducting and applying audit results and then closing the loop
- Willing and able to work with colleagues in other specialities, professions and roles to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable service
- Familiar with clinical governance
- A willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership
- Awareness of current relevant developments within the wider NHS
- Determination to have a key role in establishing and developing the service
- Must have an interest in teaching all grades of hospital and professional staff
- Track record of critical reading
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
Desirable criteria
- Training in and experience of evidence-based practice
- Experience of clinical governance
- Experience of protocol / pathway development and change management
- Practical experience in teaching posts
- Plans for possible ongoing research projects relevant to service
