Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, Band 3 (22.5 hours a week)
We are looking for a caring, passionate, flexible & organised Health Care Assistant for an exciting opportunity to come & join our friendly gynaecology out-patient team in delivering care in this busy environment
The post holder will work with the team to ensure the smooth running of the department & provide support & nursing care to women & their families; periodically they may also be required to work on the in-patient ward. They will support & assist health professionals with procedures & investigations; excellent communication skills are essential
We are particularly looking for someone who is interested in womens’ health & ensuring that a high standard of care is provided. We also recognise that having a diverse workforce will improve patient outcomes & staff experience
The post is 22.5 hours, shifts are Monday to Friday between 07:30hrs & 18:00hrs. The post holder will be expected to work predominantly in Gloucester Royal Hospital but also required to work across both sites

The post holder will be an integral member of the team facilitating the smooth running of the clinic, including ensuring the environment is clean, safe & well stocked. You will support staff, patients & their families during clinic & when patients attend for procedures.Ìý Sometimes women receive bad news & therefore having the ability to show empathy & deal in a sensitive & tactful way when communicating with patients & their families will be fundamental to the role
With the support & guidance of the surrounding team you will assist the team with procedures; it would be desirable for the successful applicant to have enhanced levels of dexterity in order to be able to do this effectively
We want staff to be flexible and be able to work across the whole unit, therefore the post holder will be expected to work on 9a (inpatient gynaecology ward) periodically
Women attending clinic can often be vulnerable so it is important that the post holder is able to be alert to any safeguarding issues & escalate as required
To be successful in the position the post holder will need basic IT skills & be competent in using computer based programmes to support patient care

Gloucestershire Hospitals is one of the largest hospital trusts in England serving a diverse population of almost 620,000 people. We Ìýprovide acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).Ìý
The majority of gynaecology out patient work is focused in GRH but we also provide services in Lansdown suite in CGH. The team work across both sites. Gynaecology in patients in located in GRH & we starting to work more closely with the ward & want staff to be flexible to work in both areas.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team you will support the delivery of outstanding patient centred care for patients attending the out-patient clinic. ÌýYou will be expected to help facilitate the smooth running of the clinic and this may include explanation to the patient of what is going to happen during their appointment and also providing a chaperone during examination. The service is developing and growing therefore the post holder may be expected to contribute to the delivery of care of gynaecology patients no matter their location within the Trust.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate evidence of their effective communication skills as providing both physical and emotional care and support to patients will be the foundations of your work. You will be able to provide information appropriately and sensitively and support patient and staff in the delivery of information which may cause emotional distress. You will also need to be able to maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records both hand written and electronically.Ìý
The post holder will deliver care within a challenging and changing clinical environment so being able to prioritise your workload and manage your time effectively will be paramount.
You will have the ability to work well with all members of the team, and under the supervision and guidance of the nursing team you will undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level assessment, for example venepuncture and assisting with minor procedures. You will have the ability to assess the patient’s condition and be able to recognise a deteriorating patient’s needs and be able to implement appropriate care and escalate the situation to a senior member of the team.
You will use discretion and have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection. You will be expected to input and retrieve patient information from computer-based systems in accordance with the Data Protection Act.Ìý
Contributing to the maintenance of a clean and tidy environment and assisting with stock ordering and supplies maintenance including CSSD supplies will be expected of the successful applicant. You will understand and adhere to Trust policies and procedures maintaining a professional code of conduct at all times.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

- Basic level in literacy and numeracy
- Experience of working within a team
- Able to communicate effectively including use of interpersonal skills i.e. listening
- Interest in womens health
- Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding issues
- Experience of working as a health care assistant in NHS acute trust
- Able to assist practitioners with investigations/treatments/procedures in out-patients
- Demonstrates an ability to listen and learn and escalate to RN
- Demonstrates a sense of commitment of working in a caring environment of all people from all backgrounds and all of all ages
