An excellent opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our team providing on-going assessment and treatment for people with learning disabilities. Either full time or part positions are available.

We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking and imaginative qualified nurse to become an integral part of our multidisciplinary team. You should be either a Learning Disability Nurse or a Mental Health Nurse with an interest in working with people with a learning disability, have experience of working with people who have a learning disability who may exhibit behaviours that are challenging, are autistic or who have an existing mental health issue. Experience in working in an inpatient environment and managing challenging situations is also desirable.听

Main duties of the job

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care needs of a specific group of service users
  • Supervise mentor and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students
  • Coordinate care for a specified group of service users

At Berkeley House, our shifts times are as follows-

Early shift is 07:00-14:50

Late shift is 13:40-21:30

Night shift is 21:00-07:20

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

听听听听听听 Work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse or key worker taking responsibility for the assessment of care and health education needs

听听听听听听 Develop, implement and evaluate care plans in conjunction with service users, carers and other professionals ensuring individual needs are met

听听听听听听 Ensure that everyone involved in the care plan receives a copy and to ensure that all relevant details are recorded on Trust IT systems

听听听听听听 As named nurse to have responsibility for undertaking mental and behavioural state examinations for own service users and service users being admitted, repeated on at least a weekly basis and clinical risk assessment and management plans.

听听听听听听 Utilising the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and in line with Trust policy, provide specialist care, education and advice to service users (including carers) who are suffering from common, severe and enduring mental health problem to promote recovery and social inclusion

听听听听听听 Assist service users to meet their personal care needs e.g. assisting with bathing and washing, as outlined in the Care Plan. This intervention may be delegated where appropriate

听听听听听听 Liaise with and offer specialist assessment and advice to other agencies and professions, including participating in Multi-Agency meetings to offer advice and opinions to facilitate the ongoing treatment and care of service users and to ensure adherence to National Service Framework (NSF) guidelines

听听听听听听 Actively support service users in the management of their medication within a 鈥榗oncordance framework鈥 and relevant policies. Administer medication, including Intra-muscular injections depot medication as appropriate and monitor side effects. Delegate the checking and delivery of medication when appropriate

We provide a Multi-professional preceptorship programme that is aligned to the National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing and have been awarded the Interim quality mark from NHS England. Our programme is provided to all Newly Qualified; Nurses, Nursing Associates, Internationally Educated Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals and Return to Practice Practitioners. In addition to the programme we also offer all preceptees the opportunity of enrolling and completing the level 7 (Masters) 15 credit validated module 鈥淧receptorship for Healthcare鈥 (AP7026).

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNM)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of formal post registration learning
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

LENGTH AND / OR NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within an In-Patient or residential setting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of collaboration working with other agencies including the voluntary sector
  • Completion of preceptorship programme if less than 1 year experience

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act & legal aspects of Mental Health care
  • Demonstrable skills in risk assessment and management
  • An understanding of national policy in relation to learning disabilities
