Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Palliative Medicine Specialty Doctor to join the North Wales specialist palliative care team.听
This is a permanent specialty doctor role within the Palliative Medicine department. 听The appointee should have previous general medical experience and will work with the senior medical staff and clinical nurse specialists as part of the Specialist Palliative Care Team, to support both community and hospital inpatient services in North West Wales. 听This is a part-time position, of six sessions per week, based with the team in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.
Opportunities exist for those keen to pursue research and education/teaching interests via well-established links with Bangor University.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will provide medical cover and day to day clinical advice on patient management to colleagues, including closely supporting the Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Hospice at Home nursing teams in the West Area. The appointee will have the support of the consultants and senior specialty doctor, and potentially a specialty trainee in palliative medicine on rotation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be appointed on the Terms and Conditions of the Welsh SAS Contract. The sessions will include both direct clinical care and supporting professional activities (SPA). This timetable and responsibilities can change with full discussion and agreement of the appointee and depending on the future local direction of services.听

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBChB or equivalent Full registration with GMC Valid Mandatory Life Support (or above)
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate experience in Palliative Care Working towards formal qualification in Palliative Care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate experience in training grade posts of at least 2 years or more at FY2/CT or above
Desirable criteria
- Experience at Senior CT, StR Speciality Trainee or Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills General medical skills / procedures appropriate to experience Ability to write clear concise notes/present clinical histories Supervisory skills
Desirable criteria
- Keen to develop teaching skills Computer skills Communication skills course or qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience/knowledge of palliative care to appropriate level Awareness of interface between secondary and primary care
Desirable criteria
- Working towards formal postgraduate qualification Some experience in audit/ research Experience of community services and working in primary care
