Job overview

This post is for a cardiology trainee who wishes to gain experience in inpatient and outpatient cardiology and have the opportunity to gain skills in echocardiography and cardiac catheterisation. The applicant should have completed core medical training CT2 and should have obtained their MRCP or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The North Wales Cardiac Centre does approximately 1000 PCI cases per year including being the regional centre for primary angioplasty.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Working for our organisation

The post is based at the North Wales Cardiac Centre (NWCC) at Glan Clwyd Hospital which has responsibilities for patients across the Health Board. The North Wales Cardiac Centre is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) and provides cardiology services for the population of North Wales (approx. 700,000). It is staffed by consultant cardiologists based in all three District General Hospitals along with consultants from radiology providing cardiac intervention and imaging. This post will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital.

Essential criteria
  • GMC full registration
  • MRCP
  • Completed UK CT2 year or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ALS Instructor

Clincal Experience

Essential criteria
  • Competent in assessment and management of critically ill patients
  • Wide experience and training in general medicine
  • Experience in acute cardiology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in echocardiography / pacing / coronary

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively with the entire team
  • Ability to make independent decisions and communicate effectively with colleagues
  • Familiarity with NHS

Research & Audit Experiences

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of completed audit projects
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research in cardiology
  • Peer-reviewed publications
