Job overview

Performs work including activities which are complex and/or non-routine. Responsible for technical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, acceptance testing and calibration on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, e.g. electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control and automation, standby generator plant, security access control, nurse call systems and lifts. This is not an exhaustive list but provides examples of the type and range of systems and equipment worked on.
Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
Assists the Electrical Operations Officer to deliver business plans, review planned maintenance procedures and support the organisation.
The role would be principally based on the Basingstoke site, however dependant on the needs of the service it may be required to work on the other site locations.

Main duties of the job

To work in accordance with the requirements of the electrical HTMs, statutory regulations, IET Wiring Regulations and Trust policies.

To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner following the appropriate risk assessment at all times.

Subject to an individual’s availability, work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.

Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the management.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures.

Undertake technical fault finding on complex electrical systems and equipment. Using ‘cause and effect analysis’ together with detailed examination to gain an effective solution.

Accountably act as Authorised Person (AP) for relevant systems such as LV/HV Electrical Systems and Lifts.

Provide service lead role for areas covered as AP including providing plans/schedules related to maintenance activities and major interruptions.

To attend training courses as required to maintain the ability to carry out the role.

Follows detailed engineering drawings and specifications, interpret and follow all relevant regulations at all times.

Uses all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a structured training programme in electrical engineering for a minimum period of three years
  • HNC/HND/BTEC/ONC in electrical and electronic engineering plus relevant professional experience
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Emergency first aid training
  • Experience of working with specialist medical electrical systems such as IPS
  • Inspection and testing of generators and inspection and testing of fire alarm systems.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of one years’ post qualification experience working in an electrical maintenance environment.
  • Good awareness of health & safety legislation and experience of working to safe systems of work.
  • Work as an Authorised/Competent/ Responsible Person on the following systems: - o High Voltage o Low Voltage o Lifts
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital environment
  • Experience of working on Building Management Systems
