We have an Ìýfantastic opportunity for an Information Analyst Specialist to join our experienced Infection Prevention Team at UHS.Ìý

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organised and adaptable individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can work in a challenging, dynamic and fast moving environment.Ìý

This is an important role which offers the opportunity to contribute to the provision of a high quality infection prevention and control service to support the trust in the reduction of healthcare associated infection and providing the best care for our patients.Ìý

The post holder will be enthusiastic and experienced in data collection, manipulation, interpretation and analysis and in using IT systems and their associated processes, in order to deliver high quality information and to ensure systems for surveillance, audit and performance monitoring and reporting are developed, implemented and maintained.

You will work as part of the Infection Prevention Team to support Ìýthe delivery of the Infection Prevention and Control Service within UHS. This service incorporates the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within UHS.

UHS is a large dynamic organisation with approximately 1200 beds. ÌýIt provides a range of specialist and tertiary services and is a designated major trauma centre, providing a wealth of opportunities to gain a broad range of experience in infection prevention and control information-based analysis, reporting, processing and development.Ìý

The Infection Prevention team has a trust-wide remit covering services at the main Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital Sites, its services within the Royal South Hants Hospital, New Forest Birthing Centre, and Lymington Hospital and to the HIOW air ambulance service. The team also works closely with local partners within the HIOW Integrated Care Board (ICB).Ìý

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as a key member of the infection prevention team (IPT) and will:
- Ensure the high-quality collection, analysis and reporting of key HCAI information and performance data to enable reporting Trust-wide and externally.Ìý
-Analyse and resolve complex statistical, analytical queries and issues around data analysis where there could be a range of solutions.
- Develop, adapt and improve systems to input, store, analyse and disseminate information used by the IPT, including development and management of local databases/data sources.
- Implement and co-ordinate the infection prevention audit and surveillance programmes across the Trust.Ìý
- Provide office management and support, ensuring an efficient and effective administration function for the Infection Prevention Team

Experience and skills required:
-Qualification or proven experience relevant to role (e.g. business analyst, data analyst, information technology).
-Experienced and skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access Databases, Microsoft Office 365 (including Microsoft Forms) and internet hosted databases.
-Experience of developing and maintaining databases/data sources and IT solutions for data collection, performance monitoring & reporting.Ìý
-Able to input and manipulate data and information into computer databases/data collection systems, generating reports and performance information. ÌýÌý
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Qualification relevant to role (e.g. business analyst, data analyst, information technology) or equivalent experience demonstrated through work-based utilisation of skills.
  • Experienced and skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access Databases, Microsoft Office 365 (including Microsoft Forms) and internet hosted databases.

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of statistical and epidemiological techniques and procedures, acquired through degree level study or equivalent experience.
  • Able to investigate and resolve complex statistical and epidemiological queries and issues /problems, by analysing the range of options available and identifying the most appropriate solution.
  • Previous experience in NHS or healthcare services.
  • Previous clinical audit experience
  • Project management experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience/knowledge of statistical and epidemiological techniques/procedures and data analysis related to healthcare associated infection (HCAI).

Aptitudes and skills required

Essential criteria
  • Plan and manage statistical and analytical work programmes, responding to frequent interruptions and requests for urgent information that require immediate adjustment of the work programme.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

  • Understanding of national improvement programmes for healthcare associated infection, and the importance of accurate data systems.
