Main duties of the job
This is a new Senior Fellow post within our Neurology team here at the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) with a specialist focus on supporting patients who have been diagnosised with Mutliple Sclerosis (MS). ÌýOur MS team is the busy hub of a 'hub and spoke' model for the Wessex region so this is a brilliant opportunity for the successful candidate to build their knowledge and understanding of this group of patients.
The role will be predominantly based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust but we are delighted that this role will also work with the neurology team based at University Hospitals Dorset (approx. 2 days per month) so this is an excellent opportunity to develop network links and partnership working. Ìý
The Neurology service at WNC has a well established team of 30 Consultant colleagues along with a range of specialist nurses, neuropsychology and neuroradiology to name a few.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Your role will be to work within the multiple sclerosis multidisciplinary team alongside five MS consultants, MS specialist nurses, MS infusion nurses, MS pharmacists and MS co-ordinators. You will conduct weekly multiple sclerosis clinics supported by the MS consultant team, primarily to make decisions about disease modifying treatment and to follow-up patients on long term therapy. There will be a particular emphasis on supporting MS patients with acute clinical issues including relapses and complications of treatment, with the provision of additional telephone clinics to aid this. You will be required to actively engage in the multiple sclerosis MDT meetings and provide advice and support for patients changing therapies as an outcome of the MDT. You will be expected to support audit, research and governance activities within the multiple sclerosis service. You will also provide support to the general neurology service with a weekly general clinic in Southampton and two days per month working with the neurology team in Dorset.Ìý
In addition you will be part of the neurology trainee on-call rota, which provides cover for neurology and stroke including mechanical thrombectomy.Ìý
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
To be eligible for consideration you must be a Specialist Registrar within six months of your CCT date at the interview date.
Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered it is essential that candidates should provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom and attach the confirmation to your application.

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). ÌýÌý
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post.
The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process. Ìý
Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.Ìý
Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay) Ìý ÌýÌý

Qualifications, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Neurology specialty examination certificate or equivalent
- CCT or equivalent
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Neurology
- Experience with supervising nurses and junior clinical colleagues
Desirable criteria
- Research qualification
- Ability to take independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience with clinical research
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
