Job overview

We are excited to announce the opening of our state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Centre in Winchester, scheduled for July 2025. This new facility is a testament to our Trust’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region and working collaboratively with orthopaedic services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to serve patients across our communities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated nurse/ ODP to lead the theatre team for the new Central Hampshire Elective Orthopaedic Hub, located on the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site in Winchester.

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic and experienced theatre practitioner who is interested in delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care at what is an exciting time for the service. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is essential to our organisation.

ÌýThe post holder will be directly accountable for the continued operational management of elective orthopaedic surgery within the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre, in relation to patient safety, staffing arrangements, the management of theatre lists, resource use (including supplies and equipment), maintaining professional and clinical standards, line management, staff compliance with policies and procedures, and supporting the teaching and induction of staff to provide an effective learning environment. The post holder will also be expected to provide clinical leadership to staff within the HOC, and wider theatre team.Ìý

Main duties of the job

Excellent team working and communication skills are essential for this role along with a need to establish and maintain good working relationships within the multidisciplinary team and wider services to work collaboratively and co-operatively to enhance quality of care.

The successful candidate will provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team; they will also be expected to work as an expert clinical practitioner providing through themselves and their theatre an excellent quality of care to patients and service users.

Experience and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current professional UK registration e.g. HCPC, NMC with at least 5 years post registration experience in the orthopaedic theatre environment.
  • Evidence of Management and Leadership
  • at least 2 years band 6 experience in specialty
  • Advanced clinical skills in orthopaedic scrub role
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of mentorship award/ involvement in mentoring learners and teaching
  • Quality Improvement training
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit
  • Knowledge of perioperative guidance and standards

Clinical skills

Essential criteria
  • Strong evidence of specialist clinical scrub skills
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of planning and organisational skills
  • Able to manage people effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Work based learning course/ theatre course
  • Advanced practice skills/qualification

Leadership/ management and teaching skills
