We are looking to recruit a Phlebotomist to join our team. For this role it is necessary that you are a caring and courteous individual that can work under pressure in a challenging environment. The post holder is required to collect blood samples by venepuncture methods from patients in the community in the Cheshunt area and in the Cheshunt Community Hospital Clinic.

Main duties of the job

听The Phlebotomist will be expected to support their team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust鈥檚 Values in their day-to-day work. This will be achieved by providing a venepuncture service to local patients. The post holder will ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for service users. They will work under the direction of the Locality Manager.

You must hold a full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To obtain venous blood samples from patients aged 11+ in accordance to trust guidelines.
  • To label specimen bottles accurately and place samples in appropriately labelled bottles and packaging for transporting to the relevant laboratory.
  • To conduct all procedures with an awareness of the individual needs and respecting patient confidentiality.
  • To record appropriately in the patient鈥檚 electronic records in accordance to trust policy.
  • To approach the patient with courtesy and give an appropriate explanation of the procedure.
  • Obtain appropriate consent for the procedure being carried out.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to an emergency situation.
  • Ensuring stock levels are maintained for the phlebotomy team.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education including English and Maths to GCSE grade C or equivalent.
  • Evidence of willingness to undertake relevant study
  • NVQ 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • First Aid, Health Care related courses
  • Previous Community Phlebotomy Experience
  • Relevant qualification in venepuncture

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Health, Social, Education or Voluntary setting
  • Previous experience with Adults & young people in the community.
  • Awareness of the need for confidentiality
  • Experience of caring for Adults & young person with special needs
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to contribute to the development of new clinics/services.

  • Car driver and access to car

  • Ability to establish and maintain verbal communication.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely and contemporaneous records.
