Consultant Urological Surgeon (with Special Interests)

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

The Urology department is delighted to offer an appointment for a urological surgeon with a subspecialist interest in renal and upper tract robotic surgery. We have developed a regional centre of cancer care, serving a large population. Our robotic service is well established since 2011 and provides pelvic and upper tract cancer and benign complex surgery using the Da Vinci platform. Currently we provide a high volume robotic partial nephrectomy service and therefore wish to expand the department. We are extremely fortunate to have both vascular and renal dialysis units on-site at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, where the Da Vinci X robot is based.

Main duties of the job

The prospective candidate will provide additional kidney cancer and upper tract surgical support in the robotic theatre and outpatient diagnostics. It is essential that cancer surgeons are core members of the cancer MDT. Although we are happy to support flexible working – cancer surgery outcomes are dependent on flexibility in availability to manage major cancer treatments.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country.

Through our Family First scheme we pledge to find roles for partners of consultants offered a substantive post - For more information please visit https://www.ekhuft.nhs.uk/careers/family-first-scheme/

We also offer removal expenses (substantive positions), up to 32 days’ annual leave and active support for study, quality improvement and patient safety work as part of our ‘We care’ improvement journey, and medical education and research.
