Job overview

We are excited to offerÌý an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner role to join ourÌý large tertiary level NICU.Ìý The post holder will be required to deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, taking an important role in the delivery of holistic, evidence-based care under the direction of the Lead Consultant Neonatologist. Working within agreed protocols and guidelines the ANNP will exercise independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of premature, sick babies and their families.Ìý

This is a junior ANNP post and the post holder will have completed a university accredited course for ANNP training which has led to a masters’ degree in Neonatology. The post holder will contribute to the neonatal Tier 1 (SHO/ST1-3) doctors’ rota and they will join a team of 3 other ANNP’s in NICU (2 currently in training).Ìý

Main duties of the job

This post has been developed to complement the current medical workforce in the neonatal unit and improve skill mix. We are looking to appoint a forward-thinking junior ANNP who would like to join a highly motivated and award-winning team.ÌýÌý

The ANNP crosses the clinical boundaries between nursing and medical care, using advanced clinical knowledge and skills to work independently, with support provided by a Consultant Neonatologist for clinical supervision. This includes working out of hours with telephone support from a consultant.ÌýÌý

The post holder will promote a high standard of advanced clinical medical care by initiating and co-ordinating the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the holistic needs of babies, parents/carers and families through evidence based clinical practice following agreed policies, protocols and guidelines.Ìý

An advanced clinical practitioner exercises independent judgement to provide all elements of clinical care using a holistic, family centred approach, which may include assessment; planning; provision of care and treatment; diagnosis; investigation and referral; evaluation; transfer; discharge; follow-up.Ìý

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Commitment toÌýparticipate in the SHO/ST1-3 rota and attend all clinical sessions relating to this role.ÌýÌý

Provides guidance and counselling to parents/carers/guardiansÌýregarding clinical management and also supports them in decision making in relation to a mutually agreed plan of care.

Demonstrates excellent communication skills, and can communicate complex, sensitive information to families and carers effectively.Ìý

Provide supervision, advice, support and training to junior doctors and less experienced ANNPs in the unit and delivery of clinical medical care.

Promote a high standard of advanced specialist nursing and medical care by initiating and co-ordinating the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the holistic needs of babies, parents/carers and families through evidence based clinical practice following agreed policies, protocols and guidelines.Ìý

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN or RSCN with a degree
  • ANNP qualification to a masters degree from an accredited UK University provider
  • ENB 405 (or equivalent)
  • ENB 998 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • NLS provider qualification
  • Registereds Non- Medical Prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Newly qualified ANNP or previous experience in a neonatal unit undertaking level 2 or 3 neonatal care
  • Experiences of working in a varied MDT setting
  • Highly developed clinical skills appropriate for Tertiary Neonatal Unit
  • Evidence of Evidenced-Based Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate active involvement in Research or Audit
