Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for leading and managing antibiotic services across Medway NHS Foundation Trust, with a primary focus on optimising the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of antibiotics and related medicines. This role requires the development, implementation, and evaluation of antibiotic prescribing policies, ensuring compliance with national and Trust-specific guidelines.
The post holder will lead, deliver, and evaluate antibiotic policies within Medway NHS Foundation Trust. They are responsible for providing expert pharmaceutical advice, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with medicines legislation. The role focuses on optimising the use of antibiotics and related medications while managing and developing junior pharmacists and clinical technicians. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high standards of care, safety, and cost-effectiveness in pharmaceutical services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will lead the pharmacy team in delivering high-quality, responsive clinical pharmacy services. They will oversee the antimicrobial service and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients receive the best care. This includes providing expert advice on antibiotic therapy, conducting joint microbiologist-pharmacist ward rounds, and participating in advanced prescribing roles within their specialty. They will also support medicines reconciliation and provide input into complex drug treatment decisions, offering guidance to senior clinicians when managing challenging cases.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Specialist Post Graduate Masters or equivalent experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services and able to provide highly specialist advice
- Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of delivering responsibilities and objectives to time in previous posts
- Experience of managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback
- Demonstrate experience and ability to manage or supervise a range of projects
