Job overview
We are currently looking for ST3 Trust doctors in Medicine at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate covering the General Medicine on-call rota. There are various sub-specialities available such as HCOOP, Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Stroke. These posts will be for 12 months in the first instance.
We are a friendly, motivated and supportive department seeing approximately 70,000 patients each year. We achieve the 98% access target and are proud that we provide a high quality, patient focused service to the local population.

Main duties of the job
The role is a Trust Doctor in Medicine. The post involves duties on a full shift basis of 40 hours.
The Trust Doctor in acute medicine takes part in the on-call rota, 1:10 with prospective cover and has the clinical responsibility with day to day provision of routine and emergency medical care to a level appropriate to the grade for all patients on the Clinical Decision Unit. This post will give the candidate the opportunity to acquire experience in Respiratory medicine or TIA management or rotate to ITU.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible for communication and liaison with other medical and service departments within the hospital and with general practitioners and other agencies, such as district nursing and Social Services.
The appointee will be expected to cover for absence of colleagues (including on call cover) at short notice, e.g. sickness. Cover outside the Rota requiring extra hours of work will be paid as additional work at nationally agreed rates and will be coordinated to be compliant with the relevant legislation.
It is expected that the post holder will play an active part in the training of junior medical staff. He/she will also be expected to supervise, educate and assist medical students.
The post holder should take an active part in clinical audit, journal club and departmental teaching sessions. Regular appraisals will occur and the post holder will be expected to take part in CPD.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in General Medicine, post internship.
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or Teaching experience
- Distinctions,scholarships, prizes, publications.
- Other degrees, e.g., BSc, MSc, MD
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Wide and extensive experience in all aspects of Gen. Medicine
- The ability to converse at ease and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
