The ACP lead is a key member of the Urgent Care Management team, enabling the delivery of outstanding services in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints as set out in the divisional business plan. Working with senior nursing/medical colleagues, the post holder will have a key role to play in the development of the strategic vision across the Trust. As an expert in their clinical area, the post holder will practice at a highly specialised and skilled level. They will lead in developing clinical practice, knowledge, skills and roles within the Trust, influencing improvements in care and patient outcomes.
ÌýThe ACP Lead will be an expert resource, providing leadership in Urgent Care, ensuring patients and staff are safe, cared for and listened to. The ACP lead will lead the development and delivery of clinical and professional standards and the development of leadership capacity within the department ensuring that nurses, ACPs, ENP's, AHPs and support staff provide excellent quality care with exceptionally high safety standards, treating all patients with dignity and respect.ÌýThe post holder will form strong links with local higher education providers to enable the development of appropriate educational and training programmes for all clinical staff within their specialty.Ìý
Main duties of the job
The Strategic Development and Leadership of ACPs / ENPs in UEC, junior clinical staff, and junior nursing staff.
Delivery of an approved advanced practice curriculum (national or local in absence) for trainee practitioners.
Contribute to trust wide strategies surrounding performance and improvement.
Contribute to workforce planning and considerations of organisational systems affecting resilience and retention.
Develop a directorate Faculty for Enhanced and Advanced Practice to provide a governance structure to the training and development of advanced practice across UEC.
Oversight of budgets for advanced practice within the directorate
Develop robust clinical streams alongside colleagues aimed at safe patient care, experience and efficiency.

Essential criteria
- Nursing/AHP & other knowledge.
- Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing /AHP theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
- Thorough understanding of equality & diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area.
Desirable criteria
- Conference presentations and or publications.
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Relevant Nursing Degree
- Master’s Degree
- ENP/ACP
- Evidence of extensive experience in acute medicine or emergency medicine
- Non-Medical Prescribing course (v300)
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
- Able to demonstrate wide knowledge of health policy and application to critical care practice.
Desirable criteria
- PhD or willing to undertake in the future
- Recognition of advanced practice credentialing through a nationally recognised scheme

- Understanding of the principles and application of effective staff / HR management Able to manage all Registered Nurses, Advanced skills practitioners, HCAs and students within unit effectively through effective standard-setting, monitoring, feedback, appraisal, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective practice. Appraise staff effectively in line with Trust Appraisal Policy.
- Able to interview staff effectively in line with Trust Recruitment & Selection Policy. Able to manage change effectively, with assistance from HR, Matron etc. in line with Trust policy, influencing staff to make changes / improvements.
- Experience of clinical audit and service development resulting from audit findings. Knowledge of professional and wider issues relating to the NHS, and policy relating to own specialist area.
