Blackpool Teaching Hospitals' Child Health department is on a mission to provide excellent care to the families of our locality and we're seeking a number of talented and enthusiastic Locally Employed Doctors', ST3+, in Paediatric Medicine to join our expanding team.

Successful applicants will work on the Middle Grade rota that will include on calls

You will help the team to deliver exceptional care to the children of the surrounding area while supporting with on-call commitments shaping the future of the Child Health Department.

•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Work with the best:Ìý

You will work with and have excellent support from consultant paediatricians, advanced nurse practitioners who specialise in both Neonates and Paediatrics that are dedicated to high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join our team of 15 WTE consultants and 6 tier 2 doctors delivering integrated paediatric care to Blackpool.

This post will be within the middle grade tier working at ST3+ level.

Duties will be across:

· ÌýÌýÌý Inpatient paediatrics; assessment and management of acute referrals from A&E and primary care. Care of those already inpatient on children’s wards and support and supervision of first on-call trainees.

· ÌýÌýÌýÌý Neonatal Unit; on-going care and management of babies on the NNU, in transitional care and the post-natal wards. Support and supervision for first on trainees in these areas. Attendance at high risk deliveries.

· Ìý Outpatient clinics; attendance in designated clinics predominantly at BVH but on occasions outreach and community clinics. All clinics will be supervised directly by a consultant.

· Ìý Safeguarding; assessment and management of children referred for safeguarding assessment under direct supervision of on-call consultant. Attendance at monthly peer review meetings.

· ÌýAdministration; responsibility for e-discharges, Badger summaries, safeguarding reports and outpatient letters.

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • At least to CMT level with evidence of appropriate practical procedures
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPCH

Experience

Essential criteria
  • ≥ 4 years post graduate training in Paediatrics (or equivalent experience and competence)
  • Is able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to working as a tier 2 paediatrician to deliver general care, including practical procedures (neonates and Paediatrics)
  • Experience of team working
  • Experience of team leadership e.g neonatal resuscitation Previous experience on the Tier 2 middle grade rota
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in other areas relevant to Paediatrics such as Community Child Health e.g. paediatric neurodisability including assessment and management of children with social communication disorders, child mental health, public health
  • Experience of working with looked-after children and assessments
  • Experience / involvement in developing services

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
  • Effective teaching skills Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations
  • Leadership skills- ability to take responsibility, show leadership and make decisions

  • Computer and IT skills

Management skills

  • Awareness of NHS organisation and core values of NHS
  • Understanding of the leadership and management responsibilities of a Tier 2 middle grade doctor
