An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Superintendent Radiographer in Breast Imaging to join our team at Leicester.Ìý

The role involves working as a Breast Imaging Superintendent, joining a friendly and motivated imaging team who are highly skilled in providing exceptional knowledge and services across the hospital. The team are passionate about providing person-centred care and putting patients at the heart of everything they do, and we are looking for a like-minded Breast Imaging Superintendent to join them.Ìý Ìý

The post holder will take a leading role in planning and providing a high standard of care to all patients and will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Breast Care Unit.ÌýÌý

You will need to be motivated, passionate, and be able to work as part of a team with excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ìý You will need to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and concentrate on tasks in a busy environment.Ìý You will work closely with the General Manager, Screening Director and Symptomatic Lead to ensure a high quality mammography service is provided utilising cutting edge technology.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the Day to day management, recruitment and rostering.Ìý

Dealing with day to day problem solving and decision making for optimal service cover.Ìý

Ensuring staff, equipment and policies are compliant and adhered to National and local guidelines and governance.Ìý

Ensure service users receive the best possible care and complaints are correctly investigated in line with Trust and NHSBSP procedure.

Our breast screening programme is one of the largest in the East Midlands and one of the largest in England. Our Breast Screening population is 160,000. In addition to the screening activity our symptomatic and surveillance demand is approximately 17,000 per year.Ìý We are a centre that is actively involved in clinical trials and have successfully secured Tomosynthesis along with Contrast Enhanced Digital Mammography

Oversee all operations within the BreastÌý Department. Ìý

To manage at a senior level, the team, service improvement/management of change (if required)

Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to colleagues.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment to enhance patient care and staff satisfaction.


Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of breast imaging equipment.
Establish and uphold quality control procedures to meet industry and regulatory standards.


Review and assess breast imaging for accuracy and quality assurance.
Conduct breast imaging examinations and deliver compassionate patient care.


Explain procedures, address patient inquiries, and alleviate concerns.
Prioritise patient safety and comfort throughout examinations.
Stay updated on relevant regulations and guidelines concerning breast imaging services

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers/BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered
  • UK NHS Breast Screening Programme Certificate of Competency/Postgraduate award in mammographic practice
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate qualification in management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of Breast Imaging, working within Symptomatic Mammography and the NHSBSP
  • Have a sound knowledge of the principles of the NHSBSP and the National Breast Cancer targets
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance issues
  • Proven clinical and managerial skills –managing a team of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners as Clinical Lead, acting as a role model
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of budgetary control

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate easily and effectively with staff, patients and clients, in particular empathise with sensitive distressing issues
  • Effective presentation skills Ability to organise and prioritise work using own initiative
  • People management skills including change management and negotiation for service delivery
Desirable criteria
  • Able to create and present reports and analyse complex data and other information

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to take and implement a strategic view which is consistent with UHL values
  • Procedure and policy development, Experience of clinical audit,
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic clinical environment, Decision making, problem solve

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of daily management of a defined clinical work area
  • Skills to work under pressure and manage conflicting demand on time and commitments from all stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritise and plan departmental workload using own initiative
