Job overview

This is a new and exciting post that has become available within the Division. This is a one year appointment as a Lower Limb fellow for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a new post starting from 1st week of August each year.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with lower limb arthroplasty consultants.

Main duties of the job

The post has been designed with the aim of preparing the incumbent for a Consultant appointment. It is funded through the NHS with salary at SpR level.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in an active and well-organised department, staffed largely by an enthusiastic group of Consultants who run regular teaching sessions and are committed to career progression and furthering education.

ULHT has recently been identified an as exemplary unit for lower limb arthroplasty surgery, with many significant achievements over the past few years. We have the lowest hospital stay in the country for joint replacements. There are four laminar flow theatres at Grantham, with two in Lincoln County Hospital and Boston Pilgrim Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will be situated mainly at Grantham Hospital with specialist trauma lists and elective clinics at acute sites

The Lower Limb Arthroplasty Unit at ULHT has ten substantive Consultants. The Fellowship is run by Mr Rambani, Mr Antapur, Mr Rowsell and Mr Othman, but there will be an opportunity to work with all of the lower limb arthroplasty Consultants. The team sees a wide range of elective hip and knee arthroplasty cases, including revision arthroplasty as well as specialist trauma referrals such as peri-prosthetic fractures.听

The successful candidate will be encouraged to continue to develop their sub-specialty interest, contribute to revision network and also to the general work of the department including a strong teaching commitment, clinical management and effective team working.
You will be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and ideally have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Orthopaedic Surgery or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. We would welcome informal enquiries about this post to,

  • Minimum of 12 months full time or equivalent part time experience of lower limb arthroplasty surgery at middle- grade level

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to teach trainees and medical students.
