Job overview

General Assistant required for the Catering department, RMH Chelsea for kitchen prep, potwash and stores area.

Full time position, 37.5 hours per week , 5 days out of 7.

Experience in similar environment preferred.

Main duties of the job

The key roles preparation of raw and cooked food, picking and packing of cook chill food, sandwiches and salad items for patients and restaurant. To undertake cleaning duties which are appropriate with the post and to assist the kitchen team with the patient, and staff meal service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Ìý ÌýThe preparation of vegetables, sandwiches, cold desserts and salad items for both Restaurant and Patient Services as directed by the Chef in charge of the shift.
• Ìý ÌýPicking and Packing of cook chill food for patients.
• Ìý ÌýEnsure that all food storage, preparation and service of all foods meet the temperature guidelines stipulated in the Food Safety (Temperature Control) Act 1995 and to record all food temperatures.
• Ìý ÌýAssist in daily cleaning of all kitchen areas to maintain a high standard of hygiene as and when appropriate within the departmental cleaning schedules.
• Ìý ÌýEnsure all relevant equipment has been turned "on" prior to service and switched "off" once used.
• Ìý ÌýAssist the chef de parties with the preparation, cooking and service of patient and staff meals.
• Ìý ÌýEnsure as directed by the chef in charge that all relevant food items and accompaniments are made available to patients and staff prior to service.

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of fresh food production
  • Ability to write clearly
  • Evidence of intermediate IT skills and data entry accuracy

Specific Experience

Essential criteria
  • A levels, including a science subject
  • A recognised qualification in Maths & English
  • Willing to undergo relevant training
  • Experience of working within catering
  • Experience & knowledge of duties required to support senior staff gained by experience in a similar role
  • Able to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Awareness that the role involves handling of patient/visitor’s meals and willingness to be trained in this area
  • Awareness and ability to follow food hygiene, Allergan awareness and H&S practice for handling or willingness to undergo training in this area
  • Good understanding of task prioritisation & demonstration of practice
  • Basic understanding of quality management & experience of delivering good quality service
  • Understanding that work relates directly to patient care
