This is an exciting developmental opportunity for motivated and experienced midwives to join our Labour ward team at Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust as a Band 7 Labour Ward Coordinator we are pleased to offer 3x vacancies with 2x Full Time substantive roles and 1x fixed term role of 12 months part time.

We are looking for forward thinking, positive leaders who can help us to continue to achieve great things. The successful candidate will already be working at an advanced level, with a wide range of clinical skills and experience in various settings and can support junior staff whilst ensuring quality care provision to women.

ÌýThe role will involve supporting andÌý promoting change as we continue to implement and embed our continuity of carer models into practice. You will work closely with the Labour Ward Matron to ensure that high standards of care and quality assurance is maintained. The successful candidates will have the necessary skills, confidence and temperament to practice autonomously and coordinate a busy Labour Ward and Obstetric Theatres providing expert clinical and managerial leadership to the multi-disciplinary team on your shifts.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • BSc in Midwifery
  • Evidence of professional development
  • Assessor/mentorship course or equivalent ALSO/NALS/MOET course
Desirable criteria
  • Masters in Midwifery, or evidence of working towards
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate
  • Managerial/Leadership qualifications and / or experience

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Essential criteria
  • Awareness and understanding of current national and local midwifery issues.
  • Demonstrate a desire to improve standards
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
  • Understand systems of team approach in midwifery
  • Understanding of change management process.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience
  • Experience of working in both hospital and community settings
  • Evidence of contribution to developing midwifery practice or education and training.
  • Guideline and policy development Clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Formal teaching practice in the classroom
  • Experience of implementing change management projects
  • Management of people

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching and presentation skills
  • IT skills – awareness of data quality issues
  • Ability to initiate change and participate in implementing new policies and procedures
  • Ability to be objective when assessing staff
  • Ability to give and receive feedback
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Mentor/Assessor Training
  • Examination and assessment of the newborn
  • Experienced in managing groups
