Ìý
Main duties of the job
The Royal London Hospital is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the UK, providing services to more than half a million patients each year. With a turnover of £1.4 billion and a Workforce of around 24,000, Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.
The Royal London Women’s Health is the tertiary referral centre for fetal and maternal medicine services within Barts Health NHS Trust and beyond, providing specialist multidisciplinary clinics for women with medical conditions who are pregnant, including specialist haematology, rheumatology, cardiology, renal, diabetes and neurology clinics. The Fetal Medicine unit gets tertiary referrals from as far as Harlow and Basildon and has been successful in its application to trainÌý SubspecialityÌý Fellows in Fetal Medicine. The Fetal Medicine performs invasive Fetal procedures as Chorionic Villous sampling and intraperitoneal transfusions.Ìý Royal London has recently been accredited as the hub of the regional maternal medicine network. The labour ward has 13 delivery rooms, 2 operating theatres and an HDU 4 bed area. The unit delivers ~5000 babies a year and is supported by a 37-cot, level 3Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which also supports the regional neonatal surgical unit. The team is determined to reduce avoidable neonatal encephalopathy and there is a focus in physiological CTG and human factors training with also considerable recent investment in equipment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In 2019, the Gynaecology department had 1265 Emergency Admissions (including 311 EGU procedures).Ìý We had 11033 OP Appts (including 3864 rapid access EGU appointments) and 968 Elective Surgical procedures.Ìý We have an excellent early pregnancy unit and also offer Manual Vacuum aspiration for miscarriages.Ìý Besides performing all minimally access procedures and open gynaecology surgery for benign gynaecology, since 2015; we have been awarded the status of an accredited Endometriosis centre (accreditation renewed annually for complex, deep endometriosis) and we get tertiary referrals from within and outside NE London.Ìý

This is an exciting time to join the team at Royal London Hospital who are renowned for their cutting edge innovative services, including personalised care. The post holders will be expected to work closely with the obstetrics and gynaecology leadership team delivering national and local initiatives, in order to deliver outstanding care to the women of Tower Hamlets and beyond. It is intended that the post holder will be competent in high-risk obstetrics and able to work in a busy, tertiary unit.

Education
Essential criteria
- ATSM Advanced labour ward practice (ALWP) or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- MRCOG or equivalent qualification
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
- Experience in advanced gynaecological ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures
- ATSM Early pregnancy and acute gynaecology or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Bengin gynae ATSM or equivalent
- MD or PhD
- Relevant post-graduate degrees
Experience
Essential criteria
- Track record in service development
- Clinical training and experience in a gynaecology ultrasound unit
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience in complex gynaecological surgeries in early pregnancy care, such as Caesarean section ectopic pregnancies
- Experience in high-risk Obstetrics
Desirable criteria
- Track record in QI, training and supervision
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to perform complex gynaecological surgeries, such as Caesarean section scar ectopic pregnancies and laparoscopic management of pelvis abscesses
- Competences in ultrasound diagnosis of endometriosis, gynaecological malignancies, Mullerian anomalies, urinary tract abnormalities
- Competences in ultrasound-guided procedures, such as drainage of pelvic abscesses
- Ability to manage complex gynaecological cases, including multi-disciplinary liaison
