The post holder will act as a clinical specialist for podiatric biomechanics in their local team. You will lead on and educate your colleges and junior staff regarding biomechanical and the musculoskeletal (MSK) interventions, theories and Podiatry treatment plans being the main contact for this area within your team.
The post holder will be responsible for:

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý You will provide highly specialised advice to others across professions within our local acute hospital sites and Community clinics
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Work with Biomechanics Leads within CLCH and other healthcare professionals contributing to the 5 year Strategic Framework for MSK.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý You will screen patients for biomechanical, MSK and neuromuscular dysfunction within all clinical care settings.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Provide educational opportunities to both podiatry and other health and social care staff and patients alike to promote an understanding of biomechanics and the importance of foot function for people affected by MSK injury, dysfunction or disease.
Main duties of the job
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake clinical and managerial supervision with staff members who may be designated to you
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To act as a local lead in the absence of your local service manager
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work use your clinical knowledge/skills/influence to guide and educate the podiatry staff within your team and across CLCH Podiatry
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To motivate administration and clerical personnel to cooperate effectively with the multidisciplinary team assisting them in identifying and helping solve problems in order to provide an efficient service.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To review established guidelines and protocols for the identification and treatment of biomechanical disorders and feed into wider MSK projects.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work as part of a team across various sectors of the organisation in order to develop the service in accordance with the users needs by participating in forums and analysing user feedback in order to deliver an appropriate and fitting service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools.
- To diagnose and treat complex biomechanics disorders for both podiatric case management and in context of wider MSK care plans.
- To continually review treatment protocols and practices in order to ensure best practice methods are applied.
- To provide guidance and support to podiatry department packages of care; to develop and embed biomechanics into daily practice for all podiatrists.
- To be able to recognise acute MSK and Rheumatologic presentations and to be able to refer patients directly for some diagnostic tests, such as, bloods and x-rays, and to interpret and act accordingly on data provided therein.
- To develop tailored care packages dependent upon patient need and utilise extensive skills, such as the prescription of bespoke functional foot orthoses (FFOs) and stiffness modulated ankle foot orthoses (SMAFOs) to enable and maintain patient mobility.
- To liaise with the extended carers’ network, including MSK services, rehabilitation teams, orthopaedic and rheumatology teams, to ensure that the patient’s continued rehabilitation and re-enablement needs are met
Person specification
Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continual professional and personal development
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
- Post graduate courses/ education in Biomechanics / MSK (Cert or Diploma to M level accreditation)
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Study in area of Specialist interest
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working at a band 6 level or above and evidence of working with a high risk caseload, neurology, rheumatology, orthopaedic or sports medicine caseload
- Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
- Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / musculoskeletal pathology types / the at-risk and high-risk foot
- Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
Desirable criteria
- Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
- Intermediate to Advanced IT Skills including use of Internet, e-mail, Word Packages
