Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Visitor or School Nurse to join the Multi Agency Child Protection and Assesment Team. The post holder will be key in offering a health perspective as part of the child protection process.ÌýThis team will include a mix of social workers, health practitioners, police and education.

Main duties of the job

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be a health expert in safeguarding and child protection.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To interpret health information accurately to support the safeguarding process and offer relevant advice and guidance to the wider multi agency team.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work in collaboration with the multi agency team.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be a conduit between children’s social care and the wider health network to ensure timely and relevant information is shared as part of the child protection process.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be the lead professional where required.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To deputise when required in the team managers absence and delegate appropriately to junior staff.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be responsible for organising and prioritising own workload in the day to day allocation of work.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To offer clinical health advice to support decision making within the child protection process and support the lead for health within the team.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To have organisational, local and national knowledge surrounding safeguarding and child protection to inform decision making.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.

Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFTÌý

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.Ìý As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) pro rata for part time staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Have a in depth knowledge of how health impacts safeguarding and be able to articulate this clearly in safeguarding and child protection proceedings.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Use professional and clinical judgement to support the assessments of children and families to develop and provide appropriate clinical interventions.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work effectively in distressing or emotional circumstances, e.g. safeguarding children.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The post holder will have Current Effective Status on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) – SCPHN HV

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to children and families.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be able to assess and develop plans of care to meet the needs of children and families with a variety of needs. This will include continuously evaluating and acting on outcomes.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To ensure practice is supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature and peer review.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý At all times consider the safety of the child, working in line with local safeguarding policies.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To ensure clinical and safeguarding supervision are maintained.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – Health visitor/SN
  • To hold a relevant qualification at masters level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Safeguarding Level 4 trained
  • Safeguarding supervisor trained

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years post SCPHN qualification, working actively as a Health Visitor or School Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in working with vulnerable families
  • Line management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in collecting and analysing data

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An awareness of adverse childhood experiences
  • Awareness of Trauma Informed Practice
  • An awareness of substance misuse

Skills

Essential criteria
  • To be able to work with families using a strength-based approach, using SMART goals
  • To be able to communicate effectively with families, children and other professionals
