Do you have some experience of caring for women with complex PMH concerns and would you like to develop your skills and knowledge?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the PMH team, your role will include supporting the specialist midwife, facilitating support groups, working alongside the PMH and IAPT teams

The role also involves working in our community 0.3 WTE

Main duties of the job

  • As a midwife working with women and families with mild to moderate, and moderate to severe, mental health illness this role is to support Perinatal Health Midwives.
  • Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women and families
  • Work in partnership with other health care professionals and liaise with other agencies involved in the provisions of maternity services and seek advice from the Mental Health Specialist midwife as required.
  • Where children鈥檚 safeguarding is involved ensure that the interest and well-being of babies is protected, whilst continuing to provide women-centred, compassionate care and act as an advocate for mothers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Mental Health Lead Midwife work closely with Perinatal Mental Health Teams in care planning and assessment of women and families where there are mental health concerns.
  • Work closely with community and charitable agencies and ensure that women and families are linked into additional support at the earliest opportunity.
  • Engage in other public health initiatives and projects - especially in relation to improving outcomes for women and families with mental health concerns.听
  • Contribute to pre-birth planning, Multidisciplinary Team meetings and case听
    conferences as required, ensuring effective sharing of information.听
  • Attend the monthly internal Psychosocial meetings to support the mental health leads.
  • Ensure that robust pre-birth/discharge planning and plan is in place with the supportof the safeguarding and mental health leads.
  • Attend Postnatal Discharge planning meetings on the postnatal ward for any cases with social care involvement.听
  • Support staff on the inpatient wards with mental health cases.听
  • Ensure robust information sharing and care planning with primary care teams.听
  • Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women.
  • Act as a care navigator to ensure timely access to appropriate pathways and robust information sharing and handover has been completed.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • First degree in Midwifery or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of post qualification education activity
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of safeguarding post qualification education

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a preceptorship programme or equivalent, with evidence of working in a variety of settings
  • Evidence of applying current research to practice
  • Relevant clinical experience
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to assist in staff development, appraisal and performance review.

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Proven oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to compile complex written information
  • Relevant knowledge of the principles of Mental Health and safeguarding as well as public health issues that may contribute to or reduce these.
  • An ability to demonstrate on-going commitment to learning and development
