An opportunity has arisen for a candidate to join a growing, dynamic and forward thinking Rheumatology department at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust. The candidate will join a faculty which currently consists of 4 Consultants, an Associate Specialist, a Specialty Doctor and a Specialist Registrar, working with a multidisciplinary team at the Chelsea & Westminster site, working as part of a larger pool of consultants from the West Middlesex site.

The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to patients with Rheumatology conditions.

The appointee must be a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent and would be expected to have completed higher specialist training or equivalent in Rheumatology. It is highly desirable but not essential, that the appointee holds a higher medical degree (i.e. MD or PhD).

The appointee will work under the terms and conditions of the new consultant contract. He/she, together with Consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the management of patients with rheumatological conditions at the C&W hospital site.

The main duties of the appointees will be: Ìý

1. Outpatient activity

Two full and one short outpatient clinics per week including patients with osteoporosis as well as the full range of rheumatology presentation. ÌýThere are nurse led clinics including for patient education and managing disease flares and for supporting follow up. There is a Pharmacist Prescriber to support prescription of DMARD drugs. There is an Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner providing a weekly Spondyloarthritis clinic within the Rheumatology Outpatients.

2. Inpatient activity

Rheumatology does not have its own ward base at Chelsea & Westminster. ÌýRheumatology patients are admitted under the medical teams, with appropriate input provided from the Rheumatology SPR and Consultants. Rheumatology SPR and Consultants also provide advice around management of rheumatology-related problems in other patients on request, including patients on the Ambulatory & Emergency Care Unit and Emergency Department as well as wards. The post-holder will be expected to be on site during working hours on Fridays to provide advice as needed.
