Locum Consultant in Critical Care
Locum Consultant
Job overview
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join the critical care team at Imperial College Healthcare.听
You will be working as part of the wider critical care directorate at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which provides 94 Adult ICU beds across three hospitals. All units were rated 鈥淕ood鈥 by the CQC in 2019, and achieved very positive feedback in peer reviews in 2023.听
Each unit admits both elective and emergency Level 2 and 3 patients, but has a distinct character. St Mary鈥檚 is a quaternary vascular centre and Major Trauma Centre, Charing Cross is a regional stroke and neurosurgical centre, and Hammersmith is a regional centre for cardiac, renal and haematology. As a result, we care for a hugely varied clinical case mix and are pioneers in multi-disciplinary and collaborative care.听
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in the UK, we offer a wide range of opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. Academic clinicians are welcome and will be encouraged to become local principal investigators for multicentre studies in collaboration with our internationally acclaimed academic department led by Prof A Gordon.听
Candidates will need to be on the Specialist Register in ICM (or to be approaching their CCT date), and we also welcome interest from individuals with joint accreditation in specialties such as anaesthesia, respiratory and emergency medicine.
Main duties of the job
The posts will attract 10PAs including a minimum of 2SPAs, but we also welcome applications from individuals who wish to work less than full time. Our philosophy is to formulate an individualised job plan with successful candidates, with an emphasis on enabling professional development and pursuit of specific interests. We strongly believe that the job plan needs to be sustainable and should enable the successful candidate to maintain a good work-life balance.听
Main duties contained within the job plan are assessing and managing critically unwell patients as part of the ICU MDT team. This will involve twice daily ward rounds as a minimum with targeted assessment and interventions as required. Outreach duties are also contained within the job plans and there are outreach clinics which can be job planned for interested candidates. SPA duties will vary but all consultants are expected to support and supervise trainees.听
All appointments are to the Trust, but we will discuss with you through the application process any preferences you have about working at a particular site or sites, and mutually agree this with you at appointment. There may also be opportunities for consultants to move sites during their career if they wish to, in order to gain new clinical or leadership experience.
Working for our organisation
At Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care. 听
Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. You鈥檒l get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career.
Benefits include career development, flexible working and wellbeing, staff recognition scheme.听 Make use of optional benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.听
We are committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of our staff and will consider applications to work flexibly,听part time or job share.听 Please talk to听us at interview.听
