Job overview

  • Support the Lead Pharmacists in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient pharmaceutical service to Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MEH) patients.
  • Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to MEH A&E, outpatient, and day-case patients.
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to patients, their carers or other healthcare professionals on the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines and to improve the quality of pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • Provide prescribing advice and support to medical and non-medical prescribing staff.
  • Undertake regular audit to monitor and promote adherence to local and national guidance.
  • Support, develop and train Trainee Pharmacists, junior Pharmacists, and other Pharmacy staff working within the section as appropriate.
  • Work with Lead Pharmacists, Nursing and Clinical Leads and other relevant Pharmacy Leads on service developments and improvements to ensure that Pharmacy services meet the needs of the users.
  • Support the Lead Pharmacist for Clinical Services & Governance and the Deputy Chief Pharmacist in the development and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the section.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Senior Pharmacists in the delivery and development of clinical Pharmacy and dispensary services to Moorfields patients.
  • To provide day-to-day supervision of the work of other staff working within the dispensary.
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice on the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines.
  • Improve the quality of pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • Undertake regular audit to monitor and promote adherence to local and national guidance.
  • Support and develop Trainee Pharmacists, Band 6 Pharmacists, and other Pharmacy staff as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for updating, maintaining and developing relevant policies, protocol and Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) that may be required to ensure the quality and safety of the dispensary services provided.
  • To identify and deliver on audits related to the Pharmacy service and clinical audits to assess prescribing practice and adherence to guidelines with the aim of improving patient care.
  • To ensure that medication related incidents and near misses are identified and recorded as per Trust policy.
  • To monitor the clinical Pharmacy service and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and produce reports to ensure that the service is consistently delivered to a high standard.
  • To act as line manager to junior Pharmacists and be responsible for their setting objectives, appraisals, sickness absence and performance management etc.
