Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Orthoptist to join our team of 23 Orthoptists and Optometrists based at Queen Mary's in Sidcup. The post will also involve working at Orpington Hospital. We work closely with our two paediatric/motility Consultant Ophthalmologists but also support Medical Retina, Uveitis, Glaucoma, Neuro-ophthalmology and Oculoplastics services. The team also specialise in visual processing diffculties, low vision, stroke and Botox for blepharospasm.
Main duties of the job
•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work autonomously as an Orthoptist managing a wide and complex clinical caseload.
•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To provide a high quality and comprehensive Orthoptic service.
•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To ensure, individually and as part of the team, the effective and efficient running of the Orthoptic and Ophthalmology service.
•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To develop extended roles, including intravitreal injecting.
•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To deliver teaching and competency based learning programs for Ophthalmic colleagues and Orthoptic undergraduates

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be involved in highly specialised clinics such as:
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Adult Orthoptic.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Paediatric.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Neuro-ophthalmology
Ìý Ìý Ìý To co-ordinate clinics (Orthoptic, thyroid, paediatric, adult strabismus, neuro).
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Assessment of lid and pupils.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Tonometry (Goldmann, Tonopen, i-Care, Reichart) and pachymetry.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Goldmann perimetry and paediatric perimetry.
Ìý Ìý Ìý To work as an extended scope practitioner in an ophthalmic subspecialty e.g.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Medical retina to include intravitreal injections after appropriate training
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Emergency eye care
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Paediatrics
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Oculoplastics – Administration of botulinum toxin for facial dystonias
