Band 8a Specialist Pharmacist - Clinical Trials (Sutton site)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Pharmacist, to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team in Sutton. This is post to maintain the clinical trial pharmacy service provided at the Royal Marden NHS Foundation Trust (now consisting of over 40 individuals). The post holder will be integrated with the research team as well as lead on the set-up and maintenance of clinical trials running at the Trust and other clinical areas of the hospital for allocated clinical units. Applicants are required to have previous clinical trials & aseptics experience and a background in oncology or haemato-oncology is desirable.

Main duties of the job

To maintain and support the Clinical Trials service in accordance with current UK Clinical Trial Regulations, the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) regulation 2004 (EU Clinical Trial Directive) and all updates, together with ICH GCP guidelines and departmental procedures, ensuring provision of a high-quality service to patients and staff at the Royal Marsden.

To be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of Clinical Trials Pharmacy Dispensary/ West Wing/ Oak Ward and Drug Development Unit (DDU)at Sutton, to ensure that the supply of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) is undertaken in accordance with current legislation and best practice guidelines, ensuring appropriate handling of IMP in order to safeguard patients, staff and the Trust.

To provide highly specialised pharmaceutical and clinical advice to all trial medicines, including phase 1 to phase 4 and Advance Therapy Investigational Medicinal Products (ATIMP) across all specialisms, to senior medical and nursing staff.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all pharmacy aspects of Clinical Trials are carried out to the highest practicable standards of ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and statutory national guidance.
  • This post will be responsible for leading and managing the Clinical Trials services ensuring all Clinical Trial patients receive the best, personalised, safe care on time.
  • Ensure the appropriate handling of trial medication in order to safeguard patients, staff and the Trust.
  • To proactively develop the pharmacy service setting in line with trust agreed priorities and regional and national objectives, identifying opportunities for the development of pharmacy services to match identified service and care needs. Promote the on-going Trust initiative to continually improve theÌýClinical Trials services and patient experience.

Essential criteria
  • GPhC registration
  • MSc/Diploma Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Good Clinical Practice Training and knowledge

  • Non-medical prescriber
