Job overview

Working within the Waltham Forest Recovery College. The Peer Trainer will have lived experience of mental health issues and/or services. They will have the ability to inspire, model and inform others, and to draw positively on their own experience to deliver recovery courses and workshops to the Recovery College’s students.

The Peer Trainer will work alongside the Recovery College Lead, users of services, carers, volunteers, and staff, to co-design, plan and successfully deliver the workshops and courses for the Waltham Forest Recovery College. Courses are focused on providing a better understanding of mental health issues, learning, and developing people’s life skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

  • To plan, co-produce, develop and deliver courses and workshops
  • Work alongside people with lived experience and people with professional experience
  • Support users of services to actively engage in the Recovery College
  • To support the promotion of the Recovery College.
  • To support scheduling the Recovery College course timetable
  • To assist WFRC students to identify their strengths, personal interests, and goals
  • To participate in the Recovery College steering group and other relevant meetings
  • Support the recruitment of volunteers and provide support to volunteers.
  • To act as a role model to students to inspire hope, share life experiences and lessons learned as a person in recovery.
  • Support the monitoring of the outcomes and impact of the RC.
  • To support in linking and networking with other services including other peer workers or those with lived experience
  • To engage and involve stakeholders in the college through events and communications.

Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationaryÌý period or currently a bank member of staff).Ìý

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata).

Leadership

· ÌýÌýÌý To take an active interest in working parties and groups within the Trust to develop and improve on service delivery, protocols and guidelines, especially in relation to peer worker roles.

  • To participate in the audit process, linking in with the clinical governance agenda.
  • Ìý ÌýTo facilitate the development of a positive and ‘supportive’ team culture by taking responsibility for dealing effectively with potential conflict.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To advise, encourage and share knowledge utilising the latest research and practice development, through literature and peer reviews.

Training & Development

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake mandatory training and workshops.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake a regular appraisal, developing a personal development plan that includes competencies relevant to the identified post.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to Recovery College, the specific service user group and peer support.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To raise the profile of the Recovery College and the role of Peer Trainer within NELFT and to external organisations. Where relevant delivery of presentations, workshops, and participation in Trust-wide peer related projects and audits.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To work with Recovery College Lead using regular supervision to monitor job role and function and in identifying own areas for development.
