Consultant Cellular Pathologist
An exciting opportunity exists for a replacement whole-time consultant post in Cellular Pathology based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Woolwich, South East London, dealing with a very interesting and varied workload in a general setting. This is your chance to join a team dedicated to the highest standards of patient care, at a Trust that continues to offer fulfilling careers and enviable development potential. The successful candidate will be required to report surgical pathology and non-gynaecological cytopathology cases. Although this is a full-time post, applications for candidates wishing to work less than full time will be considered. Applicants should be in possession of the FRCPath (or equivalent) and must be fully registered with the GMC including entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will participate in a regular weekly rota of surgical pathology cut-up and reporting, as well as reporting of non-gynaecological cytopathology cases. There is no requirement to report gynaecological cytopathology cases. Post-mortem examinations are very infrequently performed (averaging one every 2-3 years) and are hospital-type cases only; coronial autopsies are not carried out. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Cellular Pathology laboratories are based at both hospital sites and are now part of the East and South East London Pathology Partnership with Barts and The London NHS Foundation Trust. LGT provides a wide range of services which generates a broad and varied cellular pathology workload including specimens from dermatology, gynaecology, urology, lung, breast, and gastroenterology.

The department at QEH has full UKAS accreditation and has well-staffed laboratory and administrative services. The laboratory performance in the regular NEQAS assessments is of a consistently high standard and there is an extensive immunohistochemical panel of antibodies available using the Roche Ventana system. The department is a dedicated training centre for biomedical science students from the University of Greenwich and monthly teaching sessions are provided by consultants for both laboratory staff and university students within the department; participation in this teaching and training would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be based at the QE site and will join a team of Six consultants and two specialty doctors to provide a comprehensive service to this large Trust. They will participate in both general and breast EQA schemes (both funded by the Trust), but other specialist EQA schemes will also be considered. The appointee will be encouraged to develop a specialty interest and lead one of the specialty multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to complement the interests of existing听consultants. The appointee will benefit from a spacious, well-appointed office with an excellent microscope and facilities for photomicrography; full secretarial support is also provided. Up-to-date reporting modalities such as digital dictation and voice recognition are available for use if desired.

REGISTRATION
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT and be on the GMC Specialist Register
Clinical Experience
