Applications are invited for the post of Locum Specialty doctor registrar grade in urology. The successful candidate with join the urology team that provides urological services across multiple sites at the Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT).

This post is a locum position registrar grade for 6 months, available February 2025. Within MFT, urology services are currently spread across two inpatient sites – Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital. Urological activity is also undertaken at North Manchester General, Withington, Trafford General and Altrincham Hospitals. This post is a replacement for a vacancy we have on the Wythenshawe site.

The successful candidate will predominantly be based at the Wythenshawe and Withington sites, but the timetable will also have the flexibility of delivering activity at the other sites according to the demands of the service and the candidate’s profession developmental objectives.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be actively involved in the direct clinical care of patients admitted under the urology consultants for elective and emergency surgery. The candidate will attend clinics and operating sessions for elective work. There is a comprehensive training programme with daily consultant-led ward rounds and additional scheduled governance, radiology and MDT sessions. There is opportunity to be involved in, and present audit and research locally and regionally.

The postholder will perform duties at the Wythenshawe urology in-patient site and will also attend elective sessions at Withington Community Hospital, Trafford General Hospital & North Manchester General Hospital including consultant-led clinics, prostate biopsies, urodynamics, lithotripsy, flexible cystoscopy, and day surgery. The postholder will join the on-call rota on a pro-rata basis, resulting currently in a 1:7 on-call rota. The rotas and clinical attachments are arranged to provide the postholder with a wide experience of elective and non-elective surgery.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MB.ChB or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • At least one year of urology experience at SHO/Reg level
Desirable criteria
  • Experience on middle grade (registrar) on call rota

Other Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration) and Licensed to Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BAUS or subspecialist section
