Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly staff for our Maternity Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. Candidates need to be well motivated, able to deliver high standards with attention to detail. You will be responsible for all aspects of patient meal selection and preparation including the monitoring and maintenance of quality is adhered to at all times. This involves working directly with patients some of whom are compromised, on a one-to-one basis and fully conversant with the nutritional state of all ward patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be fully responsible for all aspects of patient meal selection, regenerated of bought in frozen products and preparation of simple meals, including requirements for patients with special dietary need e.g. diabetes. This involves working directly with patients some of whom are compromised, on a one-to-one basis and being fully conversant with the nutritional state of all ward patients.  The hostess will advise patients on the various nutritional/dietary options available dependent upon the patients needs.

The hostess will ensure that patients receive their food/drinks in an environment that is clean and has been adequately prepared for mealtimes. Patient’s meals/drinks will be served at the correct temperature and consistency whilst ensuring that the patient receives the meal that they ordered.

The post holder will be fully responsible for monitoring food wastage including quality control checks of food items. They will also be responsible for maintaining adequate stock levels of ward provisions.

The post holder must ensure that all food storage and serving equipment including crockery is cleaned and stored appropriately and adhering to infection control standards. They will support the ward manger in the monitoring of the ward environment and associated facilities for patients including reporting any faults as per the Trust policy.

The hostess will maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to the Trusts confidentiality policy.
