We have a new opportunity for you to join the Greater Manchester Assessment and In-reach Team in a development post. This is an eighteen-month development post where practitioners will work towards a Band 7 senior mental health practitioner role within the Assessment Centre.
You should be able to demonstrate relevant experience working with children and young people with mental health difficulties and evidence their skills in the assessment of risk.Ìý You should also have experience of working across agencies and developing holistic care plans. Knowledge of relevant legislation is preferred and a sound understanding of safeguarding processes is essential.
You will be enthusiastic, demonstrate a proactive approach to their work, engage in learning and development and be passionate about working within crisis care. The assessment centre is committed to supporting the successful individual within a robust development framework and will offer appropriate support and regular supervision.
³Ò²Ñ´¡±õ°ä’s role is to offer gatekeeping assessments, bed management and case management to any CYP, who may require a Tier 4 Inpatient admission.Ìý We work in collaboration with our NHS inpatient providers, for any Tier 4 referral/request for an Inpatient admission.

Main duties of the job
You will have the opportunity to make profound improvements in how crisis care is experienced by young people and those who care for them.
You will be working closely with our inpatient colleagues and have responsibility of managing the Single Point of Access for all Inpatient referrals for the GM population of 13-18 year old young people who are being considered for inpatient care.
This will involve working with CYP with a variety of mental health difficulties and diagnosis such as Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, Emotional dysregulationÌýSchizophrenia, Depression/anxiety, LD, ASD, ADHD, PTSD, Conduct disorder and Attachment difficulties.
You will also have the opportunity to work closely with external services such as social care, CAMHS, FCAMHS, CMHT, CEDS, EIT, HTT to ensure the correct pathways are in place, to support our CYP’s discharge from hospital.
We have seen already how we have positively impacted in ensuring that our young people are being supported within local services, and with the help of our colleagues within RRT reducing the dependency on inpatient care, meaning young people are getting supported at home, in a timely manner.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post is advertised as a band 7.Ìý ÌýWe encourage applications from practitioners who are currently working towards, but not necessarily meeting the full range of skills and competences for the band 7 role.Ìý If successful, you will be appointed under annex 21 of the NHS terms andÌý conditions of service and you will be supported within your role by a development plan for 18 months.
Progress to complete learning requirements will be monitored throughout your fixed term contract, and failure to achieve these may result in a decision being made on your continued employment within this role. However, where there are evidenced extenuating circumstances outside of your control that mean you are unable to complete your programme by the end of the 18-months, the Trust will review your case and endeavour to support you in completing your studies where possible.
During the 18-months payment will be 70% of the top rate of band 7 pay. Actual salary £35,039.20 per annum pro rata.Ìý
Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role the postholder will then be paid at the full band 7 (minimum point on the scaleÌýfollowing the usual pay steps).
Continued support and supervision will be provided to develop you to the band 7 role. This will be an excellent development opportunity for a band 6 looking for careerÌýdevelopment.Ìý

Essential criteria
- Relevant Core Professional qualification in mental health e.g. registered nurse, clinical psychologist, social worker plus evidence of continued Professional development in a HYM related area
- Evidence of professional registration and continued professional development
- Educated to masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Desirable criteria
- Training in one or more additional specialised areas of practice including children and young people
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working as a senior clinician in clinical settings which meet the core competencies of the post
- Experience of managing complex cases within a mental health service
- An extensive range of clinical experience within the speciality or within a care pathway
- Experience of working across professional / organisational boundaries
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients’ care and treatment.
- Experience of teaching, training and / or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of supervision of less experienced practitioners within the MDT
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

- Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life span and presenting with the full range of severity.
- Experience of assessing and treating patients across the full range of care settings.
- Experience of using outcome measures to evaluate the impact of their clinical practice
- Experience of children and young peoples’ inpatient mental health care
- Skills in service evaluations and service relevant research
Knowledge

- Knowledge of the use and inputting of outcome measures
- High level of working knowledge of the policy guidance and legislation specifically relating children and young people
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient group and mental health, including the Mental Health Act and issues of capacity and consent
