Would you like the opportunity to work in one of the busiest neuroscience units in the country, working as a stroke pharmacist?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to lead on the provision of a safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to the Stroke Directorate.
Salford Royal Hospital is part of The Greater Manchester Neurosciences Centre. Salford Royal is the hub of the Greater Manchester Stroke services providing both hyper acute stroke services and a comprehensive stroke centre for acute stroke patients 24/7 from Bolton, Central Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan and across Greater Manchester.
The primary responsibility of the Clinical Pharmacist for stroke will be to provide a specialist pharmacist service for patients on the hyper acute stroke unit and to lead the pharmacy team across the stroke service.Â
The successful post holder will collaborate with the stroke and neurosciences multidisciplinary team. Including ensuring the safe and appropriate use of high cost medicines.
The stroke specialist pharmacist will be involved in the review of new and existing treatments for the local and Greater Manchester formularies.Â
Main duties of the job
You will be given the opportunity to contribute to departmental research and quality improvement activities.
Additional responsibilities include line management of junior pharmacists and the opportunity to tutor a pharmacist on their postgraduate clinical diploma course. Participation will be expected in the departmental weekend and on-call rotas.
You will have a minimum of three years hospital clinical pharmacy experience, a postgraduate clinical qualification and be a current non medical prescriber.
Experience of clinical pharmacy in a specialist neurology area is desirable but not essential providing you have transferrable skills.

Essential criteria
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council of GB as a practising pharmacist.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Vocational master’s degree in pharmacy or equivalent.
- • Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
- • Non-medical prescriber.
Desirable criteria
- • Leadership qualification.
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- • Significant post qualification hospital pharmacy experience or equivalent documented experience.
- • Good all-round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills.
- • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of pharmaceutical care for stroke patients
- • Leadership skills
