Job overview

We are seeking a highly competent and enthusiastic locum Consultant in Medical Microbiology to join the staff bank and provide cover as required for on-call and potentially core shifts where the service requires support.

This post is a bank position providing consultant Medical Microbiology services for the Trust, including dealing with clinical enquiries, antibiotic stewardship,Ìý laboratory microbiology and infection prevention. Additional roles and responsibilities are negotiable and will be considered depending upon interest and expertise.

The applicant should as a minimium have a primary medical qualification MBChB or equivalent; and ideally FRCPath and have completed or be within 6 months of attaining CCT in Medical Microbiology.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide on-call cover for the service and core shifts as required to deliver the Microbiology consultant service. The role will provide an efficient and effective Microbiology and Infection Prevention service in Stockport NHS Foundation Trust on core shifts or support service deliver on an on-call basis out of core hours.Ìý The employee will assist with the responsibility for use and security of the Trust’s assets, including their own use.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification, e.g. MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Desirable criteria
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Completed or within 6 months of completing CCT

Training

Essential criteria
  • Previous appointments that provided training in relevant specialities and Medical Microbiology and Virology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of training in AB stewardship
  • Experience of infection control (dealing with outbreaks)
  • Experience of clinical audit

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of patient care
  • Knowledge of principles of clinical governance
  • Attendance at Audit meetings
  • Awareness of management role of a consultant in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of management responsibilities and future development in clinical practice

  • Able to demonstrate experience in research
