Job overview
We are seeking applications from suitably skilled Band 5 Staff Nurses and ODPs to join our Bank to support our friendly and dynamic clinical areas.
As a Bank worker you will be part of a flexible workforce and have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience by working in different areas in the Trust. We need workers who are available to work a variety of shift types, sometimes at short notice.
Main duties of the job
Assess plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based care (according to specialism).
Assist in the management and organisation of a clinical area.
Contribute to the development and supervision of other staff members.
Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families in line with patient and family centered care
Manage the safe and effective use of resources.
Participates in the education and development of other staff members.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive assessment of patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs.
Collect, collate and report information, maintaining accurate patients records in line with NMC recommendations and Trust policy.
Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable therapeutic environment for all patients and carers.
Involve patients and carers/family members in the planning and delivery of care.
Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure needs are met in relation to care input and support for ongoing care needs.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/family members consistent with their level of understanding and their culture.
Assess the potential risks involved within the scope of work activities, identifying how best to manage the risks.
Respect confidential information obtained in the course of professional practice and upholds the principles of Caldicott and the Data Protection Act.
Complete documentation via the electronic patient record system in line with NMC guidelines.
Managerial/Leadership
Co-ordinate the work of the nursing group/ team.
Take responsibility for co-ordinating a span of duty in the absence of the Ward Manager/Sister.
Supervise others and participate in their education and development.
Contribute to the development of services and make realistic suggestions on how services could be improved for patients and their relatives.
Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical resources.
Monitor and maintain the environment to ensure the health, safety, and security of self and others.
Education and Development
Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to development of others.
Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and NMC requirements.
Act as a mentor and assessor of nurses in training and newly qualified nurses.
Participate with patient and family engagement events, as per the Trusts patient and family experience vision.
Clinical Quality.
Acts consistently with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and encourages others to do so.
Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and equality and diversity is upheld at all times.

RISK MANAGEMENT

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / ODP with active PIN
- Evidence of continuing professional development linked to clinical competencies.

- 12 Months Post Registration Experience

- Recent experience in a Hospital setting
- Previous experience of Cardiothoracic Surgery / Medical Nursing
