Limb Reconstruction Fellow

Job overview
This 12-month Senior Clinical Fellowship is aimed at orthopaedic trainees who are peri – certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) or equivalent, who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding of adult Limb Reconstruction Surgery in a high-volume tertiary referral centre that treats a broad variety of complex acquired and congenital pathologies with a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments.

The Fellow will benefit from working within an established multi-disciplinary team that has provided fellowship training in complex elective and trauma Limb Reconstruction Surgery for decades and has an excellent national and international reputation.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow will gain clinical experience in all aspects of Limb Reconstruction Surgery, including combined orthoplastic clinics and orthoplastic operating. The role includes coordinating weekly clinical responsibilities for the team of junior doctors and managing the weekly MDT meetings. Additionally, it is expected that the Fellow will work collaboratively to advance and develop research projects within the department, in order to produce a minimum of one peer reviewed publication during the period of the Fellowship.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Senior Clinical Fellow post will be based in the elective centre at Broadgreen Hospital and the major trauma centre at Aintree Hospital.Ìý Daily work will be varied and include responsibility for coordinating the junior doctor team, providing care for both inpatients and outpatients within these hospitals, preparation for MDT meetings, active participation in outpatient clinics, elective and trauma theatre sessions and research responsibilities. We will encourage the fellow to develop their clinical and operative skills under consultant supervision across a wide variety of cases.

Essential criteria
- FRCS(Orth) OR equivalent exit examination from relevant authority
- Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training or equivalent (Trauma & Orthopaedics) completed, or due to complete within 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate degree or high-level research experience
Experience

- Completed Specialty Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics (or equivalent
- Experience in the management of major trauma and limb reconstruction pathology (or equivalent)
- Completion of deformity analysis course
- Validated surgical logbook confirming primary surgeon for at least 5 circular frame cases
Desirable criteria
- Completion of advanced limb reconstruction surgery courses
Knowledge

- Demonstrate understanding of Limb Reconstruction pathologies
- Demonstrate understanding of deformity analysis and techniques of operative management of complex trauma and deformity

- Evidence of clinical, technical and non-technical skills in the management of complex trauma and orthopaedic cases
