Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Expertise:ÌýProvide clinical care and advice to patients with stomas, particularly those undergoing bowel resections, cystectomies, and stoma formation surgeries.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration:ÌýWork closely with medical staff, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care.
  • Autonomous Practice:ÌýLead nurse-led clinics and participate in clinical audits to ensure high standards of care.
  • Education and Training:ÌýProvide education to patients, staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team, across multiple sites.
  • Patient Support: Offer ongoing support to patients with established stomas and refer them to community services as needed.

Key Requirements:
  • Experience:ÌýExtensive experience in Stoma nursing, with the ability to maintain and develop expertise in various aspects of stoma care.
  • Communication Skills:ÌýStrong communication skills are essential to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams effectively.
  • Autonomy and Leadership:ÌýAbility to work autonomously, providing leadership and guidance within a small, highly skilled team.
  • Cross-Site Flexibility:ÌýWork across different sites within the Trust, providing flexibility to cover any gaps within the team and ensuring continuity of care for patients across all service locations.
  • Trauma and Complex Care: As part of your role, you will also be involved in managing complex cases, particularly at the Aintree site, which is a trauma centre. This offers exposure to a diverse range of challenging cases, including trauma-related stoma care, as well as patients with multi-faceted medical needs. You will also need to be experienced in caring for patients on cancer pathways, particularly at the Royal site, which is where the majority of colorectal cancer surgeries take place.Ìý
