Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a support secretary to join our team of Cardiology Secretaries. The successful candidate will support the provision of a high quality, efficient, effective administration and secretarial service to our consultants and other Medical Staff in their duties.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a self motivated, enthusiastic person to take on a challenging and sometimes pressurised role. You must possess excellent communication skills, be able to communicate effectively with people at a senior level and have the ability to time manage and work well as part of a team.

You will possess the ability to recognise the importance of confidentiality and sensitivity of issues, acting with discretion at all times and be flexible, calm and organised whilst meeting the high demands of the post.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • AMSPAR Medical Terminology Certificate, or equivalent qualification/experience
  • RSA Level II word processing or equivalent
  • Experience of Audio Typing
  • Experience of working in an administrative role
Desirable criteria
  • Previous administrative experience working with in the NHS or medical environment

Essential criteria
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Polite, conscientious and courteous
  • Able to recognise and escalate issues out of scope of role
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with patients, relatives, Trust staff and other departments.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team – self motivated
  • Ability to remain calm when working under pressure

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office
  • Good time management/organisational skills
  • Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding complaints, confidentiality etc
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use own initiative and prioritise workload using organisational skills
  • Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding patient confidentiality, complaints, etc.
  • Awareness of relevant NHS/departmental targets for example 18 week RTT and cancer
