Job overview

This High Intensity Psychological Practitioner post is a bank post to help to reduce waiting times and to test a new way strategic direction for psychological services in Adult Mental Health.Ìý The overall aim is to increase access to psychological therapies and provide patients with access to a choice of therapies that can be delivered in a manner that is consistent with the principles of prudent health care.Ìý

Ìý

The post holder will provide a range of high-fidelity, evidence-based psychological therapies including CBT and EMDR in a time-limited way to individuals with moderate/severe mental health difficulties and psychological distress, often with complexity and effect on functioning.

Ìý

As part of a vibrant and forward-thinking adult psychology specialty, the post holder will be well supported to deliver teaching, training and supervision to other professionals within the Directorate and to enhance other professionals’ ability to deliver care and treatment in a psychologically minded way.Ìý In turn, the post-holder will adhere to their own professional guidelines and ethical principles and to the ethical framework of any relevant accreditation body.Ìý They will also work in accordance with Health Board policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To provide clinical expertise for structured psychological treatment providing ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý psychotherapeutic interventions with an emphasis on cognitive behavioural ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý therapy and/or EMDR.Ìý

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To generate a psychological formulation of the individual case, drawing upon different ÌýÌýÌýÌý theoretical models as appropriate.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To devise and implement plans for formal high intensity psychological treatment and / orÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý managementÌý ofÌý aÌý serviceÌý user’sÌý mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems,ÌýÌý andÌýÌý employingÌýÌý methodsÌý basedÌý uponÌý evidenceÌý ofÌý efficiencyÌý and effectiveness for that service user’s psychopathology.
