Job overview
We are looking for candidates with experience in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data combined with an ability to apply transferable skills in applied health and public health analytics, epidemiology, and/or statistics. We are also interested in candidates who have experience with data warehousing and who would also like to lean in to designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that ensures that team have data that is reliable, accessible, and well-structured for analysis and decision-making.
As a Marmot region, reducing health inequalities and tackling wider determinants of health is at the core of what we do. Having the ability and experience of working with wider determinants datasets, from multiple, varied different sources, to identify the stories that tell the story will be key. You will provide public health resource and analytical evidence to enable deeper understanding of the Gwent population to inform gaps in delivery and apprise appropriate interventions. A key part will be informing population health management and service improvement to enhance the health and wellbeing of the population of Gwent.Ìý
Main duties of the job
This role will require experience in using appropriate complex quantitative analytical approaches in a public health-related field for, data collection, analysis, and interpretation; and an ability to apply transferable skills in applied health and public health analytics, epidemiology, and/or statistics. It will be essential to have experience in areas such as Excel, R, python, SQL Queries, Power BI and other reporting tools.
You will be a key enabler in the development of population health indicators that will reduce inequalities using the linked data sets, from multiple different sources, and providing statistical insight about health, care and wellbeing across Gwent, including robust analytics surrounding primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. The role will also support the development of the cloud-based warehouse to support our ambition for linked data. Having the ability to work in both a Patient Identifiable and Anonymised world.
Key to the role will be developing actionable insights across public and population health, building a population health management platform and ensuring we develop predictive modelling to support population health management now and for future generations

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- The post holder will be qualified to a Master’s Degree level or equivalent, specifically in a technical discipline such as data analytics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or similar
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the current health system within Gwent, the aims and aspirations of the Health Board and current national health policy
- Knowledge of the role of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
- Knowledge of the Public Health agenda
- Knowledge of Population health Management
- Understanding of data bias and impact
Desirable criteria
- Equality and Diversity – knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues and how personally can make a positive difference to this agenda

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of public health / population health management analysis
- Experience of data analysis and using information to evaluate and drive improvement
- Use of Power BI and other analytical tools
Desirable criteria
- Experience in project management, including needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation
- At least 2 years’ experience of working in public health and / or health services planning within the public sector
- Experience of collaborative working across commissioning and provider organisations
- Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health services
