Job overview

EMAS has a team of 6 Strategic Medical Advisors who provide resilience in dealing with major incidents and the management of clinical risk at times of excessive demand or health system problems to patients requiring ambulance assessment or transport.

We are looking to recruit a member of this team to provide cover out of standard office working hours. During the normal working week the cover will be provided by medical staff employed by EMAS.

The remuneration package is a salary of £10,000 per annum to cover;

1:6 on-call rota with prospective cover included

Attendance at 4Ìý training/exercise days per year

Additional attendance when on call will attract an hourly rate based on the top of the consultant pay scale (Currently £100 per hour)

Main duties of the job

Full details of what we are looking for in this role can be found in the job description and person specification, however the following are essential;

-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Registered medical practitioner with a minimum of 3 years experience at Consultant or Equivalent level

-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Good understanding of pre-hospital environment

-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Immediately contactable and available when on call to provide advice and mobilise either to the Trusts Ambulance Emergency Operations Centre in Nottingham or to an incident site within the East Midlands area

-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Outstanding communication and leadership skills

-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Willingness to undertake role related training, specifically

i)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Major Incident Management

ii)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Scene Safety

iii)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý CBRN Awareness

iv)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Special Operations awareness

v)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Command Training

vi)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Record Keeping and Statement preparation training

vii)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Annual participation in table top and formal exercises

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Consultant or equivalent accountable grade with a current licence to practise
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in ALS / ATLS / MIMMS / PHTLS / Strategic Leadership in Crisis / Fellowship or Diploma in Immediate Care (Royal College of Surgeons)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of clinical management and leadership skills
  • Evidence of working across NHS organisational boundaries
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries and developing multi-disciplinary professional partnerships
  • Experience in NHS Emergency Planning & Preparedness

Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years working at Consultant, GP Principal or Equivalent Grade
