Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Hepatology team as the Fibro scanÌý teamÌý leader at NUH .This new post is funded by the Cancer Alliance, to provide a smooth, patient centred pathway for patients in high risk communitiesÌý newly identifiedÌý at risk ofÌý liver disease and potentially liver cancer.

The nurse specialist willÌý lead the team and will play a key role in providing excellent support and education to the patients, as well as being a vital link through all elements of this patient pathway.Ìý This is an excellent opportunity to influence the progression of this patient pathway and really improve the experience of these patients.

Main duties of the job

TheÌýsuccessful candidate will work collaboratively with the community services and all members of the extended multi-disciplinary team to ensure excellent coordination and management of the Fibro-scanÌý Pathway.ÌýÌý

The role is essentially to act as the lead for fibro-scan team and continue to develop this specialist diagnostic service based in both primary and secondary care as part of the Hepatology Specialist services. After training, the post holder will be responsible for clinical interactions with patients in which screening for early liver disease will be undertaken and lifestyle interventions delivered. Throughout the duration of the role training in both underlying principles of disease and practical skills will be offered to the role holder.

Good interpersonal skills are essentialÌý with patients as it will often be their first interaction with the Hepatology team. This will lead ontoÌý communication with other healthcare professionals as part of the team delivering this service. The main focus of the role is to lead the fibro scan pathway and ensure there is a seamless partnership between the Community GP practices and the hospital setting.

The post holder mustÌý have experience of leadership within nursing , and have the ability to lead a teamÌý . Must have excellent clinical knowledge in this field of nursing.Ìý They must possess excellent communication skills, and want to be part of a developing and patient focused team.

  • Hepatology experience in any setting within the last 5 years
  • Evidence of dealing with distressed patients and their families.

  • Evidence of autonomy and the ability to manage a caseload of patients.
  • Experience/involvement of working within a multi-displinary meeting setting.
  • Evidence of teaching experience both in the clinical setting and in the classroom.
  • Evidence of delivering a nurse led service
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge local liver and national cancer pathway.
  • Evidence of implementation of a new nurse led service

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration
  • First level degree or willingness to undertake degree study level
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification or who has an interest/experience in teaching.
  • post registration experience to include management/leadership experience
  • Experience in support of learners and new members of the team.
