An excitingÌý opportunity has arisen to join the Advanced Spinal Practitioner Service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The Spinal Practitioner service is responsible for the triage, assessment, and management of all chronic spinal patients referred to the spinal outpatient department. The service has successfully grown over the last 10 years and now manages over 60% of all the outpatient spinal activity

Main duties of the job

The Spinal Practitioner role requires a highly motivated therapist who has an interest in developing advanced practice in the management of spinal pain. The Spinal Practitioner service has become an integral part of the specialist spinal unit at NUH and supports the degenerative, deformity and emergency pathways.

The successful candidate will work closely with surgical and medical teams to appropriately select and list patients for interventional treatments and become an expert advisor and leader for
spinal conservative management within the trust and local community.ÌýThe role will involve evening and weekend working.

The Spinal Practitioner service is responsible for the triage, assessment, and management of all chronic spinal patients referred to the spinal outpatient department. The service has grown over the last 10Ìýyears and now manages over 60% of all the outpatient spinal activity.

In 2019, the spinal service opened anÌý assessment area (NSAU) that could pull acute, non- traumatic spinal pain patients from ED. TheÌý Advanced Spinal Practitioner service, is now an integrated part of the emergency care pathway.

ÌýThe post would suit an experienced physiotherapist who wishes to develop their assessment, diagnostic and reasoning skills in the management of degenerative spinal pain. . The post will be supported by the Advanced Spinal Practitioner team and Consultant Physiotherapist.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons in Physiotherapy, or equivalent.
  • Proven competency and postgraduate training on the referral to & interpreting of x-rays (IRMER) / MRI’s / Blood tests
  • Evidence of maintaining professional competence through CPD.
Desirable criteria
  • MSc or equivalent in relevant field
  • Non medical prescriber
  • Injection Therapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post graduate experience, including a wide variety of rotations and experiences at Band 6 in orthopedic specialty.
  • Experience in evaluation of practice.
  • Experience of audit and EBP implementation.
  • Awareness legislation relating to health and safety, litigation and Data protection.
Desirable criteria
  • Band 7 experience in spinal outpatient field.
  • Experience of involvement in research

Communication and relationship

Essential criteria
  • To act as patient advocate.
  • Participation and leading /organizing in-service training programs.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team. Ability to lead the team where appropriate.
  • Able to communication complex condition related information to patients, relatives/carers and other clinical/social care staff where there may be barriers to understanding e.g. language barriers, speech, cognitive problems

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
