Trent Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre is a centre of excellence for multi-professional learning and education and is a regional centre for advanced clinical simulation-based education as well as offering a range of clinical skills based teaching for local and regional NHS staff. Our educational activities include teaching programmes related to patient safety, Human Factors and team training.

This is an exciting time to join our team as Simulation Education Fellow and would be suited to a doctor who has successfully completed their Foundation training or Basic Specialist training and who is interested in a career in medical education. The post is 4 days a week, providing opportunity for one day a week of clinical work in a speciality of choice, subject to discussions and agreements in advance.

Working alongside our expert simulation team, you will develop personal skills around writing, developing and delivering simulation based teaching, and debriefing skills.

You will be responsible for organising teaching programmes and programme evaluation, working with medical and multiprofessional colleagues across the organisation to ensure the programmes meet learner needs.

You will have the opportunity to develop and extend your knowledge and practice in research methodology (both qualitative and quantitative) that applies to educational practice or outcomes and /or Human Factors.

Main duties of the job

1.听听听听听 You will work with Centre Director and multi-professional Simulation Education team to develop and deliver high quality multi-professional simulation and skills based education to doctors in training, medical students, nurses and allied health professionals.

2.听听听听听 Take a lead role in the development and achievement of education research projects related to educational excellence and application to practice to support delivery of safe practice.听

3.听听听听听 Actively contribute to the design, development, piloting and evaluation of course programmes including technology enhanced learning. This will include taking a lead role in quality assurance of key advanced simulation programmes, ensuring courses respond to changing learner needs and curricula/commissioner requirements.

4.听听听听听 Contribute to the organisation of regular departmental research and 鈥渏ournal club鈥 meetings for simulation teaching and patient safety/human factors

5.听听听听听 You will have the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate certificate in medical education ( start autumn 2025) 听of which 50% funding is available, up to a maximum of 拢2000.

  • 鈥 MBBS or equivalent
  • 鈥 Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice to practice

Experience

  • Participation in a clinically-based and/or educational research project with involvement at key stages (design, data collection, analysis, preparation of abstracts and final paper).
