Job overview
Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Intervention): The appointment is for a fixed term period of 24 months. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required. If the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK, sponsorship will be required.
Applicants should be ST5 level or above.

Main duties of the job
Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.
The post holder will gain comprehensive experience in conducting high-quality research in interventional cardiology and TAVI. It is expected that the output from this will lead to publications in high impact journals and presentations at high profile conferences. Potential candidates can contact Dr J Iqbal to discuss the research projects.
The successful candidate will also be able to continue some clinical work in the form of TAVI clinics and TAVI ward rounds. They will attend the TAVI MDT and be involved in TAVI CT analysis. There will also be an opportunity for the fellow to gain procedural experience in PCI and TAVI.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a license to practise
- MBChB or equivalent
- Full MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
Clinical Experience.
Essential criteria
- Broad Training in general cardiology (ST3-ST5) or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in TAVI.
- Training in Interventional Cardiology at ST6 level and above.
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
- Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.
Desirable criteria
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
- Good written communication skills
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013)
