Job overview
The Pharmacy Team at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust is undergoing an exciting transformation. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join us as Lead Pharmacist – High Cost Drugs and Medicines Optimisation.
This part-time positionÌýis offered at Band 8a. However, for candidates who are not yet ready to step into a Band 8a role, it also provides a Band 7 to 8a progression pathway. Upon starting, you will work toward a tailored set of objectives aligned with the Band 8a job description, supporting your professional development and preparing you to transition into a leadership position at Band 8a.
You will collaborate closely with our Principal Pharmacist for Primary/Secondary Care Interface, High-Cost Drugs and Cost Improvement Plan, the Lead Pharmacist for Formulary, the Homecare Pharmacy team, and clinicians to drive forward the development of this vital service.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
 Ìý ÌýManage the delivery of pharmacy services in relation to the effective utilisation of High Cost Drugs and biosimilar agents for Rheumatology and Ophthalmology by engaging effectively with divisional leads, finance and commissioning partners.
• Ìý ÌýBe the Trust service point of contact for High Cost Drug commissioners (ICB & NHSE) for medicine optimisation issues related to PbR excluded medication for Rheumatology and Ophthalmology.
• Ìý ÌýSupport the deliver of the Medicines Optimisation Strategy across the Trust.Ìý
• Ìý ÌýBe responsible for the implementation and management of processes for approval, appropriate use and audit of PbR excluded medication for Rheumatology and Ophthalmology.
 Ìý ÌýEnsure that Rheumatology and Ophthalmology treatments supported by NICE technology appraisal guidance are implemented according to published recommendations.
 Ìý ÌýManage the development and delivery of homecare services within the Trust through management of the homecare team in accordance with published national homecare standards.
 Ìý ÌýWork closely with the Clinical Service Leads, Finance Department and Homecare companies to ensure the Trust has effective mechanisms for the introduction and cost-effective delivery of new Homecare services.
• Ìý ÌýNetwork with pharmacists specialising in High Cost Drugs and Homecare to ensure leading edge practice. Establish and develop effective liaison with exemplar sites to support the continued development of the service.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Technical Pharmacy or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Registered as a pharmacist with The General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Clinical or Technical Pharmacy
- Independent prescribing qualification
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive post-registration experience with substantial clinical experience
- Experience in project management
- Extensive experience providing a pharmacy clinical service to patients
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Experience in providing and evaluating pharmacy education & training
- Experience of managing or supervising other staff
- Experience of implementing and/or reviewing policies, guidelines, PGDs or equivalent
- Evidence of on-going revalidation with the GPhC
- Highly specialised knowledge of the treatment of patients in a range of specialities
- Knowledge of how the delivery of the clinical pharmacy service must meet the needs of local and national priorities
- Knowledge of pharmacy based computer systems
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the provision of pharmacy expertise to the clinical governance agenda
- Experience of managing the entry of new medicines into a hospital formulary

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
