Our Endocrine ward is looking to invest in you!

Are you an experienced or newly qualified nurse with an interest and passion in looking after medical patients?

We are looking for nurses who can think on their feet and tolerate working in a busy ward environment and know how to priorities their delivery of care.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual patient care with minimal supervision.
  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that treatments are correctly carried out in accordance with given policy.
  • With minimal supervision, be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs.
  • To assist in the promotion of health.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of infection control standards and promote these within ward environment.
  • To maintain high standards of patient care based on sound research findings.
  • Provide legible and comprehensive patient records to agreed Trust and NMC standards and guidelines.
  • To liaise with Nurse in Charge and Senior Sister on untoward incidents, complaints and Team/Staff issues.
  • To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs (including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To act in accordance with trust policies and nursing procedure

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level
  • Diabetes Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience of managing patients with chronic medical conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in caring for Endocrine/Diabetic Patients

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Competent in basic life support and IV administration
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
  • Teaching and supervising of junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Effective working with multidisciplinary teams, working with EPIC system
  • Leadership skills

Special Requirements

Essential criteria
  • To work in other areas of the department when required
  • Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required
